Medit – Building a Meditation Habit App
Overview
Medit is designed to cultivate a daily meditation habit that reduces stress, improves balance, and manages anxiety. Daily meditations, structured programs, and calming music help users enhance their well-being and make routine life more comfortable.
My Role & Team
I conducted competitive analysis, formulated hypotheses, designed the concept, and defended solutions before stakeholders. Team: sole designer and project manager.
Project
The app’s primary goal is to help users develop a meditation habit that benefits both the conscious and subconscious, improving overall life quality through consistent practice.
Research and Insights
Leveraging personal meditation experience and insights from health blogs, I identified key points:
Habit Formation: Start small and gradually increase meditation duration with adjustable notifications.
Triggers: Use personalized notifications as triggers, e.g., meditating right after waking.
Rewards: Implement virtual medals for extended meditation streaks.
Progression: Each meditation session slightly exceeds the previous in duration.
Competitive Analysis
A thorough competitive review highlighted strengths and weaknesses in existing meditation apps, guiding our hypotheses and design direction.
Hypotheses
We prioritized hypotheses around user surveys and program design:
Users prefer personalized notifications that adapt over time.
Gamified rewards (e.g., virtual medals) increase engagement.
A clear four-block navigation (Today, Meditations, Journal, Sleep) enhances habit formation.
Design and Navigation
The main navigation is built on four blocks:
Today: Displays active programs, daily meditation suggestions, notes, and melodies.
Meditations: Provides a curated selection of meditation topics and content based on user preferences.
Journal: Offers a space for reflections, daily affirmations, and guided questions.
Sleep: Features calming music ranging from white noise to classical tunes.
Profile and Statistics
The profile focuses on infographics to track daily progress and habit consistency, emphasizing regularity over sheer numbers. Future enhancements include adding achievement badges, though the MVP prioritizes tracking habit formation.
